Adyanand Singh (Uncle) & Pratima Singh (Aunt)

My family and I wouldn’t be anywhere in our lives if it wasn’t for my aunt and uncle. They sponsored my family and brought us to the U.S. in 1985. My aunt and uncle have always treated me and my sister like their daughters. I especially admire my aunt’s emotional strength and uncle’s sense of humor! I love both of them unconditionally, and feel very blessed to be their niece.

Nirvya Nand Singh (Father) & Nirmala Singh (Mother)

If I keep thinking about how much my parents sacrificed for me & my sister, I will cry buckets. They’ve taught me how to walk my first steps, and today I nurture and pamper them. A lot of people say God comes first in their lives, but for me, my parents are above God. I am so proud to be their daughter.

Minoo Singh Kodan (Sister) & Kingsley Kodan (Brother In-Law)

My brother in-law has always guided me like an older brother and father figure. He’s especially stepped in to help my family refinance our houses, which has been a huge help, financially. He cares for me like a little sister, and my parents and I are genuinely very lucky to have him as a part of our family. Being 8 years older, my sister’s always protected me like a lioness mother. Because of the practice she had raising me, she turned out be such a perfect mother to her own 2 kids. Anything she says, I consider as the gospel truth.

Anish Kodan (Nephew)

When Anish was a baby, he was the cuddliest little butterball you wanted to squeeze and hug. . Ever since he was an infant, he was always so attached to me. I remember during his toddler days, whenever I came home, he would run to the door and excitedly open his arms for me to pick him up. During elementary school, he would always say to me, “you are my best friend, Swati Mosi!”

Acknowledgement

Asha Kodan (Niece)

A huge gratitude to my 22 year old niece. She’s served as the editor of my book & blogs. She’s used her free time to read, write, and rewrite my chapters and is a constant advisor. I’m so proud of the beautiful, wise, and fierce woman she grew up to be. She’s starting at the Univ. of MD School of Medicine this fall, and I can’t wait until the day she becomes Dr. Kodan!
